It becomes difficult to ascertain whether the resurgence of supporting reports of Peak Oil is little more than redundant or eluding to a real need for alternative energy. Shell recently released their company’s latest report “asserting compelling evidence for the peak oil theory”, and embodied within the article describing the report are expert descriptions reminding readers that peak oil is a vague description and misleading due to the fact that it does not consider the vast unconventional resources. So what is the “evidence” and should the uttering of experts be taken seriously as a viable tool for predicting future energy sources or needs, or just more attempts at market manipulation?
